5 Reasons It’s Time to Start Job Searching
When looking back at a bad situation, you might think, “How did I put up with that for so long?”
We humans are capable of tolerating a lot of stress, but that doesn’t mean you have to. If you’re in a bad job situation, you need to get out of it as soon as possible. However, it’s often difficult to tell if you’re stuck in a bad job, or in a situation that could improve if you just stick it out.
If you currently think you might need to leave your job, consider the following signs that you need to get out.
You dread going into work each day
People in bad job situations often tell themselves there’s no point in leaving because it’s bad everywhere. However, most people find their work rewarding and some people actually enjoy what they do each work day!
You may dread going into work because you have to deal with a difficult person or a heavy workload. If there isn’t a clear way to address the source of your anxiety, it is probably time to find a new job.
The company is in bad shape
If you have a sense that your business is faltering, you should start making plans to get out as soon as possible. Layoffs are an ugly situation, and it is always easier to leave on your terms.
The watercooler chat can be a good indication of your company’s health. If everyone’s favorite conversation starter is how bad things are, it’s a solid sign that you need to move on. When everybody is miserable, it shows that your situation is more than a personal problem and there are likely underlying issues beyond your control.
Your path is blocked
If you would like progress in your career but haven’t been capable of doing it with your current business, it may be time for you to go somewhere else. You want to be in a situation where your talents are acknowledged and where you can see an obvious path your career can take.
It’s a bad culture fit
While it would be nice to be able to work and get along with anybody, the reality is – we work best when were surrounded by people who have complimentary mindsets and work styles. Whether you haven’t fit in with the company culture from the start or a massive culture shift has occurred over the course of years, if you look around and don’t like what you see – you should get out.
You’re getting abuse
The workplace is no place for bullying or harassment of any kind, and yet it occurs regularly. If you’re getting abuse at work and the situation isn’t dealt with immediately, you need to get out of there right away.
